Biography

Fernando Koatz is a founding partner of the firm. Aadmitted to the Bar of the District of Columbia in 1984 and the State of New York in 1986, Fernando has a rich legal background.
His professional journey is marked by extensive expertise in a diverse array of real estate transactions, spanning co-ops, condos, townhouses/brownstones, multi-unit buildings, hotels, and construction/development. Fernando is well-versed in 1031 Exchanges and various forms of real estate financing, including private, hard money, and traditional bank financing. Beyond real estate, he provides valuable counsel to business clients on matters of corporate formation, shareholder and operating agreements, as well as contracts.
Fernando’s clientele extends beyond the United States: he represents both domestic and international clients, particularly from Latin America and Western Europe. His focus encompasses corporate, commercial, and real estate issues. He specializes in guiding foreign-based individuals and companies through the intricacies of conducting business and navigating real estate transactions in the United States, including managing complex laws such as FIRPTA, CTA, FINCEN, and other regulations pertinent to foreigners investing in the United States.
In addition to his corporate and real estate practice, Fernando also provides l counsel to non-profit organizations.
